  1. The traditional Tory way of thinking is that low taxes will mean people have more money in their pocket, and hence will spend more which will stimulate economic growth. This was fine when we produced our own consumer goods, or imported them from like-minded countries. Unfortunately, most of our consumer goods now come from China...we are becoming dangerously over-dependent on them, in my view. Our government is being very slow to wake up to the fact that China is not going to "play by our rules"...they're not about "Free Trade", but "Economic Imperialism". We are storing up SO many future problems for ourselves...

  2. I didn't actually catch Liz Truss' speech. Did she mention that rocketing energy prices are entirely a result of Government policy? If we stopped funding Ukraine (ie, stopped pissing Russia off) and abandoned the crazy, doomed-to-failure "Net Zero" policy things would be a lot easier...

I think Liz Truss will be gone within the year... ...British society is so fundamentally fractured in so many ways that no PM is ever going to be able to get a majority consensus on any policy ever again. The office of PM has been rendered completely unworkable. It's not a question of getting the Tories "out" and Labour "in", either. Starmer would suffer exactly the same fate. The "System" is broken, and it's going to take an awful lot of bollock-ache to repair it.
