@paulohagan3309 Wow! Really? What kind of gas was running through those pipes? It must have contained ethylene, or something similar in order to give a "high", I think... In similar vein, I heard that kids in southern Africa discovered that well-rotted sewage also exuded ethylene, that they could "huff" for a cheap high.

@paulohagan3309 I'm not really sure methane has that effect, though... At the risk of being slightly crude, we'd get high off our own farts if it did!😅

@paulohagan3309 Well, I'm certainly no chemist, so I can't really comment on the interaction between buttermilk and methane...I suppose it's not beyond the realms of possibility that it might get converted into psychoactive. The smoking of banana skins was a popular story for getting a "high" when I was at school (30 years ago). I never tried it, personally...

@paulohagan3309 Thanks for the link...I'd actually heard this hypothesis about the Oracle of Delphi being attributed to getting high on ethylene before. Personally, I think a lot of ancient "mystical" experiences were probably due to getting high on one substance or another!

@paulohagan3309 Very true...where I live, the wasps become particularly aggressive in autumn because they get pissed on the fermenting juice of fallen apples!
