It is already well known that in desert areas, particularly in the Australian desert areas which were often part of an inland sea. As you raise the water table, you raise the salt to the surface and this renders the land completely useless. So although your subject matter is interesting, it's well and truly an obsolete notion and idea. As far as Australians are concerned as water in the outback destroys the land even further, so none of this will be done and it's not even considered now.
