Yeah, a gutted AR mag makes a great brass catcher. One note - it works better if you cut the feed lips off (I just sawed the magazine off between the top of the mag catch and the bottom.of the feed lips), but you'll want to verify your floorplate doesn't require sling tension from the follower & spring pushing against the feedlips for retention. It was a perfect use for an old Thermmelt, I mean Thermold, magazine I had lying around. Not sure how many brass cases a gutted 30 rounder can hold, but it's more than a full magazine, that's for certain.

It's so cool to see.you cover these! I've got a 1st Gen 16" that I picked up second hand, and honestly I only have had one issue with it. It has an annoying occasional feed failure where the nose of the bullet misses the chamber and gets trapped in the corner where the barrel protrudes from the upper receiver, and the action turns the round into a telescoped case... kind of like using an M4 ramped receiver with a non-ramped AR barrel, only upside down (since it feeds from the top). Unfortunately, I bought it from a buddy shortly after the original company went under, and so there wasn't any manufacturer support. I've long suspected that issue could be eliminated by basically cutting a small feed ramp into the top edge of the barrel, so there at least isn't an acute angle that a bullet nose can get jammed into, but haven't been willing to dive into WECSOG mode with a Dremel. It also appears my barrel extends a very slight bit further from the receiver than your chamber, which might explain why I seem to have a failure I haven't seen anyone else complain about.
