  2. I think the ITAR lists DO need to be updated. There are some really antiquated things on those lists. It puts US engineering firms in a uniquely disadvantaged position. Im not saying stop ITAR but some of these things like submersible ROV thrusters were invented in the 60s and ANYONE can make one. Its a motor in a can full of oil with a propellor sticking out. The market isn’t that big so you really don’t want to sell just to the US. This is especially true because the us government doesn’t want to bother unless you are an ordained by lobbyists PRIME contractor. PRIME contractors are like Boeing. they are large and ossified and basically incapable of innovation. They only have innovative products because companies like mine cant sell stuff and have to convince a PRIME contractor to acquire them. At which point the entire drive to produce innovative products is gone.
