Russian planes have the same problem as russian tanks - corrupt command working on already tight budget that misuses them on tactical and strategic level, doesn't provide sufficient training and regular preventative maintenance and apparently just doesn't care. At all. If NATO and Russia had switched equipment, but retained all other factors, we'd now be watching videos about how bad and obsolete are F-35 \/(-_-)\/ And no amount of field modifications would change those problems as regime doesn't want to change or even admit that there are problems. Russia did to legacy of soviet military the same thing as it did to legacy of education(in technical fields) and industry. The only shocking part is that we were surprised by the former while being witness to the latter for decades. Rot and stagnation aren't things that limit themselves to single niche...

  12. Because for some reason americans believe that ALL helicopters MUST fit into a transport plane. Hence absence of native Mi-26 analogue or even desire to purchase Mi-26. Which would have looked really cool with King Stallion styled air refuelling mast and engine mufflers. And since americans don't produce bigger helicopter, Westland can't license bigger helicopter. Even if unlike US, they don't have to care about transatlantic logistics of it and all it needs to fly over is English Channel 😅

Soviets would then continue seeking any way to make sure that european powers will not get involved and will pursue their asians adventures ie continue sawing China into parts, invading Iran like they did in 1941, but this time without UK, maybe even invading Turkey and Afghanistan. And surely they'd try to get a piece of a pie when US and Japan will get into war. Unless they'd make a mistake of attacking Japan first which is also possible.
