For Q&A: 1)how important was Malacca Strait in WWII? 2)slightly off topic - If Japan didn't attack Pearl Harbor and then Philippines, what would have been the event that US could have used as an excuse for escalating conflict and joining the war? Would they be forced to join European Front first instead?

Thankfully the opposition was even less competent(and remained so until the end) in both use of submarines and ASW. Had great engineers and crews, but absolutely braindead command:D

@mathewkelly9968 you mean major navy or any navy? Pretty sure french and chinese used basically anything that was captured or handed down. Same goes partially for soviets and even japanese. US was too rich for that having peacetime industry and all that. UK, Italy and Germany? Nice idea.

@bkjeong4302 yeah, I know that. Want to hear a funny story about japanese light AAA btw? Remember how they eventually tried to copy Bofors 40mm autocannons in 1945? Do you know that this whole time japanese army(yes, infamous interservice rivalry strikes again) held several dozen german 3.7cm Flak 18/36 autocannons captured from republican chinese forces back in 1937! They copied 8.8cm Flak 18, but ignored all the autocannons they captured(there were also various examples of 20mm ones from various nations including swiss ones with a good drum and mount design). They also skipped on all captured LMGs, GPMGs and SMGs, but that's the problem of the army. Meaning that Japan could have been producing medium caliber autocannons since 1938 and could have used design solutions from various european light autocannons to fix their 25mm Hotchkiss clone around the same time...

@MrEnvirocat pretty ironic considering considering how much damage Tang alone did to japanese shipping(and how much more she could have done if her torps weren't traitorous bullshit). All those "tigers" combined done less then a single "mouse";)

@gerardmonsen1267 I don't believe that there is a way to keep US out of the war or even delay for much longer, however any delay is a massive blow to soviets and chinese. Surprisingly not so much for british in Africa. Another insane idea is to attempt to make it a weird war for US - prohibit japanese from engaging and even return fire to US troops and sponsor political campaign about "good old times when we were allies in WWI" in US. Maybe even organize a terror attack on Empire State and Chrysler buildings under the guise of "commies"(yes, I'm being very unoriginal here) to muddle up the situation even more. You can't stop it, you can hardly delay it and you definitely can't win it. So make it as confusing as possible!
