It's not. ZSU-57-2 was a dedicated SPAAG. This thing however exists for the same purpose US is started producing 50mm version of Bushmaster - garbage variety drones cost several times less then AA missile of Tunguska or even Pantsir(system that aimed to produce simplest missile solution specifically). This is still an IFV.

@alsa3ka166 jet costs enough to warrant a missile launch. This is NOT a dedicated AA vehicle, it is still an IFV. Think of it like 76mm Sherman or T-34-57 ie vehicle that was enhanced for certain task(tank destroyer in case of these example I use here or SPAAG in case of this IFV), but still retains its own designation and niche. It is there to enhance other IFVs with different armament packages(like 100+30), not to cover a niche already taken.

50mm Bushmaster had finished trials last year exactly for the same role. You people are out of the loop.

Just with extended range, programmable warhead and dedicated "flak" round to counter swarms of those 400$ flying quadcopters with cameras and jury rigged with laser pointers and/or IEDs at twice the range 30-35mm autocannons could.

@andyfriederichsen it's a derivative design of smaller chainguns of the same family. I'd say that answers the question, don't you think? Unless there are some clip fed Bushmasters I never heard about?
2
@andyfriederichsen if my previous comment will finally decide to appear, then ignore this one. Bushmaster 50mm is a derivative of smaller chainguns in the same family so it's dual feed belts.

@alsa3ka166 they have Tunguska and Pantsir for that. This IFV has different role.

@Lancetdrone it is pointless though. We have already seen such ammunition on Otomatic and Draco - it is too expensive to use. Good idea, but not for production efficiency of this century:D

@Dimetropteryx it has all to do with that discussion as one of the primary choice of 50-57mm caliber was its extended range over smaller autocannons combined with more powerful airburst ammo as higher caliber allows to use simpler VT fuze AND have more HE fuller. However in those 3 years a world became more informed and now it's evident that having RWS with .50 HMG slaved to sensors of vehicle's APS is also important to combat threats of FPV drones in real time by emulating CIWS/CRAM on small scale.
1
@Dimetropteryx 1).50 is dual purpose, it'll be on a tank regardless; 2)it has far greater range then common shotgun shell which will suddenly become important once FPVs big enough to carry ATGM or even just rocket with sight become a thing. Or if they just drop a retarded bomb(I wonder if YT will get triggered here?) on you from higher altitude; 3)there are shot shells for .50 and even .410. Just insert dual feed into RWS if it's so important to you, but I'd prefer higher caliber pellets, preferably at least the once that are comparable to 9x19 ie 50m effective range ie those that police uses.

@90enemies Tor's missiles alone cost 3 orders of magnitude more then those Ali Express drones. Of course it's not shooting them down:) Plus they're too small of a target at too close of a range. Tunguska and Pantsir counter those on approach(because their missiles are still too expensive), this IFV is supposed to counter them at longer ranges without using expensive missiles.

@becauseiwasinverted5222 are you sure it has ONLY FLIR when even T-14 and new ATGM carriers are equipped with dedicated radar equipment?;)

@90enemies Tunguska and Pantsir have 30mm autocannons. This 57mm has almost twice their range. That's the point, engage earlier, deliver more ordnance. Suicide drones are just part of the problem, those 200$ quadcopters bought online can cause enough trouble even without IED strapped to it. They provide life video feed, can easily serve as help for providing aiming point for weapons with laser guidance and so on. So idea is to push them further away where they won't have enough precision and resolution to provide effective recon or simply expand safe zone from IED variety.
