I feel like the whole weapons report relies heavily of there not being any "lunar BMP/IFV" present. Humanity in 1958: we can colonize, industrialize and militarize the Moon in 7 years Humanity in 2023: we can maybe go back by 2030... but likely won't. Because it's not profitable so I can't get a fifth yacht out of it.

I guess now we've gotten evidence as to "how can people not believe the nuke to be true and why a second bomb would be necessary"? Even though japanese were more on the side "US can't produce another one for several years" and not that they're impossible. However the fact that this is spread NOT as a joke by modern day public is a good example of how few people back then would have found it believable. As for why such a belief might have spread - I have a feeling that it's connected to more people witnessing photos of Tokyo firestorm and what conventional bombs did en masse.
