  1. I feel like the whole weapons report relies heavily of there not being any "lunar BMP/IFV" present. Humanity in 1958: we can colonize, industrialize and militarize the Moon in 7 years Humanity in 2023: we can maybe go back by 2030... but likely won't. Because it's not profitable so I can't get a fifth yacht out of it.

  3. Soviet and american space base suggestions of the time sadly were primarily military projects. What they found was a potential for protected military outpost that can coordinate MAD response. Mutually Assured Destruction. The plan was for the Moon base to be the place that could operate the longest in safety and command the coordinated defense and offense the longest thus ensuring that other side won't miraculously survive. Until MIRVs were banned it sadly made sense.
