@magigooter2096 There were only 3 colonies that EVER were profitable in history of colonialism: USA(called differently back then), India(ditto) and South Africa. Do you see french colonies on that list? "Colonialism is profitable" is the same type of idiotic statement like "war is good for business". Colonialism "profited" because it moved taxpayer money into pockets of nobility. Peasants starved and died to pay for tax provided armies and navies only for the whole profit of the resulting enterprise to be pocketed by the crown and select few nobles instead of it going back into the treasury. It was the biggest pyramid scheme in history 😅
