  2.  @randomly_random_0  my comment was the reason the older brother's role was constrained to 5 sentences and everyone was very surprised how Cameron was brave enough to kill off such a beloved character? First scenes with Quaritch in the movie show him acting in what gen Z calls cringe fashion. The script requires him to immediately show off how dangerous and predatory he is... so he starts speaking nonsense in that fashion before even asking for context of the situation he is in. Oh no, precious whale oil. It's so expensive and cool and we, a species that apparently can mass produce artificial beings ie avatars can never hope to synthesise on Earth from just a few samples delivered. Just as a cool space rock is so cool and expensive that it justifies flying to another matter on antimatter engines, the fuel for which would cost several orders of magnitude more then this damn rock and make phrase energy crisis sound as a bad joke. But ngl, the last two are mostly nitpicking since it's obvious that government of Earth is straight up lying to colonists and personnel. Earth isn't dying and all their resources, mined on Pandora cost nothing on Earth in reality, they just want to incite the war to justify destroying local population that would not survive terraforming. So the resource they'd call critical for that isn't important. And neither are sacrificial lamb colonists. Or full trains of arms shipments with equipment like MANPADs that are useful only against RDA own equipment, that lost in the jungle regularly despite there not being enough colonists to justify even a single such shipment even if you force every person to carry extra rifles with their teeth and buttcheeks. Besides I can bet that "Earth was lying" wouldn't be an angle Cameron is going for.
