I remember when someone planned to modernize all remaining T-72 according to Twardy specification(or at least phase them out in favor of Twardy or Wilk over time without losing numbers since by the claims Twardy "wasn't just T-72 modification like T-90!"). Then I recall a story with buying swedish light tank, adding applique composite like MEXAS(hopefully. It looked like plastic though) and calling it PL-01, ingenious design. Then I recall claims to fully phase out T-72's in favor of modern Leo2 modifications, which also failed... until Ukraine was attacked and Germany gave Poland a blank check apparently. I recall stories about their AK rifles and their stock being shit just because they wanted to keep the same length of the weapon lockers as for old AK variants. I hope Poland CAN become a serious military player. I just don't react to something it says it'll do to achieve that though.

  13. 4:55 Just got a courtesy of arguing over that on Spookston's video about Stryker MGS. MEXAS on LAV III protects from 14.5*114 only at ranges above 500 meters(and I still don't know which round they used to test it). Stryker is based on LAV III, has similar weight and also uses MEXAS. There is newer generation applique armor from same manufacturer, but Stryker isn't getting it. LAV 6 does:P

Another big factor here is that it might be a big enough order to 1)provoke other NATO members into buying it or alternatives to send "someone" a message of staying where they are; 2)spin up the production cycle of the missile which would lead to it becoming cheaper and someone becoming more willing to use it or selling it to states in need.

  17. This reminds of questions of what NATO can learn from captured T-90M to which all people answered "nothing, it's just same old T-72 with imported sights." Leo 2 doesn't have much secrets beyond what russians themselves already looked up on it during army evaluations of it over a decade ago. And whatever good it has, Russia can't use because it doesn't believe in ergonomics and doesn't have native production of modern electronic and optical components. The only thing is engine. Which they could have bought on the market just like chinese did(ZTZ99 is called lovechild of T-80U and Leo 2 for a reason). So all in all, nothing that they can replicate, use or learn without changing their approach to tank design, milotary doctrine, economy, education and politics 😂

It doesn't have nukes, it doesn't have territories, factories and ports outside of range of russian missiles, it doesn't have around 20 million "undesirable" recruits from poorer region that would be thrown into the grinder. But it has been two YEARS when Putin promised two weeks to Odessa. Will Ukraine eventually fall due to inability of current cabinet to sue for peace and lack of international help? Yes. Maybe in a week, maybe in 5 more years. But prorussian appeasement and peace dividend fell over, russian prestige, economy, military image, position in relation to other partners on global stage. It changed and it won't return now. People finally looked at mighty Russia on the map and found out that not only is it's projection onto the map a visual illusion, it's mostly empty and inhospitable. And when looked at actual population and GDP/c with removal of oligarchs, it's not such a big country all of a sudden😅

  24. The sad part about HIMARS and ATACMS effectiveness is that... Neptune had it. Ukraine had this capability. They knew that version for attacking ground targets would be needed. But once again there was de facto no budget allocated towards pursuing that as a priority. Even as tens of thousands of people were rotated through frontlines in 2014-2021. So instead of NLAW/Javelin/Stuhna situation where there are several modern capable systems in close niches covering each others weak points and saturating capability in general, there was nothing... imagine if Ukraine had several dozens launchers and several hundred missiles in past few months before things got bogged down? And it's not just corrupted oligarchs or prorussian vs reformers or Zelensky's vs Poroshenko's fault. It all of those at certain parts with hundreds more factors on top. But mainly inability to take early wake up call seriously. And not just for Ukraine...

  34. It's not about armor, it's about range. Artillery is kept at around 30-70% of it's max range into the rear depending on the situation. HIMARS is used with ammo that has at least 80km range(Ukraine has soviet era MLRS systems for closer targets) so your drone is supposed to go for 20-60 km into enemy territory after alarm is raised, search it all, find something and then signal for attack. While being in territory with best AA protection on the front. Are you okay?:D

So in case of attack, it was the job of conventional forces and tactical assets to hold off and go on the counter offensive. While ICBMs would be still pointed at USA in case if it'll decide to push its aggression further. As history had shown, usually US abandons "allies" in such situations; 2)this is a plan to counter NATO invasion. Counter offensive with overwhelming use of firepower to wipe out forces on European continent, prevent drawn out conflict and possibility of attacks from this front in the future; 3)this plan already happens after nukes are used either way. This is a plan for counter offensive of remaining conventional forces after nuclear attack on soviet heartland. Or do you believe that after situation escalates conventional forces shouldn't be used to press any available advantage? Btw this was soviet strategy since Stalin, who put T-54 into never seen before or after scale of tank mass production as a "soft counter" to nuclear threat USSR had no equal answer to. To plant the idea that even if nukes were used in Operation Unthinkable type of scenario that enough of soviet forces and equipment will prevail to defeat invading elements and push back.

So every T-90M, Leo 2A7, K2, M1A2 Sep 3 or whatever your country is proud of is not coming back. You can somewhat produce or rather return to service previous gen MBTs like Russia did with T-62 with thermals. And guess what? Those are technically better then their own T-72B's as those T-62's can at least see something and are just as useless in combat against modern MBTs and just as weak against ATGMs and aviation. But for much lower price. So the name of the game looks to be dirt cheap "infantry"/recon tanks that are easy to replace which are used on the whole front to probe and to support infantry, but which fall back and call REAL tanks when situation starts getting hot. Even if calling these tanks expendable is ducked up. You don't want to hear that you're in expendable tank, do you?;)

P.S.: to use a nuke you don't need a launch code. Launch code is needed for ICBMs. Nuke is a warhead that is removable from it and which can be used by gravity bomb on a plane(Ukraine also had to give up strategic bomber aircraft), transported by a truck or even used as a mine. Or put into different missile since Ukraine is producing orbital launch vehicles.

Claiming that it was first AR though is like claiming that Colt invented the revolver. There were dozens if not hundreds of prototypes of similar weapons, some of which were even mass produced and saw limited service. Such terms like "battle rifle", "PDW" and some others were born because of difficulty at classyfiying those. Two most famous examples are BAR(machine rifle/LMG/SAW/automatic rifle/battle rifle) and Fyodorov Avtomat(LMG/SAW/automatic rifle/battle rifle/avtomat) which were both mass produced and used by military. And while BAR used full sized .30-06 rifle round, 6.5x50 Arisaka round used by FA actually has the same bullet mass, power and velocity as some cartridges that classify as intermediate, specifically czech 7.62x45 vz.52. If you want to find first assault rifle ever, you're searching time period of wrong World War:P

It was T-44 that was ready by the end of 1944 and saw some limited production in 1945 without being used in combat. And it would have made no difference as it had the same gun as T-34-85. T-44-100 prototype that later resulted in first T-54 model is late 1945, long after german surrender. Go get some sleep and return when you're sober.

That's why the whole myth that all soviet officers were killed off comes from despite different years - soviet army grew over 6 times with fresh conscripts in 1940-41 in preparation to possible german agression(and to put a nail into coffin of "prepared to attack Germany first" myth, soviets were in the middle of rearmament which would end only in late 1943). Number of officers remained the same. Meaning that you suddenly got 6 times less trained officers per soldier. Hence the carastrophe of 1941 with lots of soldiers without command and orders.

Saudi speak about arab brotherhood, Iran calls back to persian roots, Pakistan views itself as the only true descendant of all things that ever was great in India and Turkey is going for osmanic legacy claim. Not arabic, mind you! And they all view themselves as ONLY rightfull rulers of unified Middle East. A culturaly and historically impossible, but so lucrative new superpower that could easily overshadow Russia and be actually recognised as serious competitor by US and China(the fact that it won't just be a summ of all statistics and parameters of all ME states, but be a much weaker state doesn't come to minds of most people).

It is facing demographic and economical catastrophe even without sanctions due to corruption and ineffective rule, but this way they're gaining population capable of working and paying taxes in exchange to losing impoverished, criminals and drunks desperate and delusional enough to go to front. And they're gaining developed territories with better climate. So even if they'll demolish 90% of buldings, they'll still be able to resettle russians from Siberia in new land to gain more support and better control over it. And a person getting to live in better conditions would rarely be bold enough to protest how they got there. Which would free Putin's hand to give out more and more of Siberia back to chinese companies, who would develop it and fuel his economy, while also ensuring that China is not an enemy. And if EU and NATO are facing Russia at their throat, would they really try something to stop Russia and China carving up Central Asia? Few dozen of those jets with all aforementioned problems vs thousands of Luftwaffe planes who might get air superiority by sheer numbers. A bunch of self proclaimed generals vs elite that had taken on the whole world and held for years commanded by most prominent officers of that time whose actions and tactics are written in books to teach nowaday ones. You're right, there's no suspense. Germans have better logistics, better supply, better training, higher initiative and many other factors that aren't going to be held down by 20(30 if we're VERY generous and assume NK can replicate the tech we sold them over the years) year tech gap. You're talking a nation ready for war vs a nation during peacetime with clear expirience and numbers superiority on one side.

If I'd get to choose I'd still prefer to sit inside BMP rather BTR when shot at with 7.62*51 or 54R. However if I'd have to choose between BMP-2 and BTR-4, I'd probably choose a vehicle covered with MEXAS... and very roomy in comparison:D
