With all those dances around 6.5mm and .338 I'm catching HEAVY deja vu to the beggining of 20th century when cartridge standartization was a dream. Back when people were trying to figure out "ideal" rifle and pistol cartridge, some were too light to down a guy, some kicked too much. Arisaka 6.5x50 for example was an example of the former, but that's why Fedorov chose it for his Avtomat. Meanwhile SMGs came into existence with pistol ammo simply because it was available en masse and first during closing stages of WWI the idea of what would later become assault rifle and intermediate cartridge was born. Haven't we seen the outcome of those dances already 5 or 6 times by now?
