  1. Best comparison for T-72 would be TIE Fighter from Star Wars. It's a simplified cheap product designed for mass production and just being good enough, fully relying on doctrine used during its creation for success. However that doesn't make it anywhere less deadly in right hands and conditions. It's the latter which Russia lacks, because it's no USSR. Majority of training facilities were closed down, there is no budget for training exercises and maintenance, the elements of combined arms it relied upon were either lost or became obsolete, officers were appointed for connections and busy with stealing and bootlicking and so on. Neither of that was the fault of guys, who designed T-72 half a century ago. And just like TIE it would do better if it was remotely controlled;)
