@khanhnguyen-tt3ff they wanted to retire it since AH-64 became a thing. Neither A-10, nor AC-130 have any advantages over combination of both helicopter gunship directly supporting the troops AND a multirole fighter armed with guided weapons. It's like trying to retain Churchill tanks for infantry support when you already have Bradley.

Considering that Mi-26 is basically C-130 in helicopter form, I don't find the idea of a helicopter carrying and firing two howitzers so far fetched. It's just that 1)Chinook is not that helicopter; 2)the project likely died due to obvious fact - we have rockets for this exact job.

@Null4eva Read comments before trying to answer. Search for word "combination" in my comment if your dyslexia is too severe. So: 1)they have far slower response time and range then multirole strike fighters and can't loiter with troops like helicopter gunships; 2)once again they lose because you decided to ignore half my comment about mutlirole fighters. AH-64 is refueled and rearmed ON SITE with troops, it doesn't need to leave them and can loiter in single spot; 3)I'm yet to see "Spectre" with four Paveway III ready on short notice. Not to mention it and A-10 breaking sound barrier. Or being able to loiter at tree top flinging ATGMs at selected targets for as long as troops require it. Oh, and before you go, 30mm HEDP is more usefull then 30mm APCR in real world, have a nice day;)

@tango_uniform there are three different F-35s, only one is a striker, context is important... and all three have far shorter response time, longer range and higher survivability then any A-10 anyway;)
