  24. Because it was done as requested. AK-12 that was in competition was different rifle from production AK-12. Almost all good features were removed. Basically the whole project was another case of stealing and corruption with "super prototype" done solely to win competition from AEK. And even then, it was mostly just lobby influence that sealed the deal. If Russia would change after these events and shake off corruption and lobbies(I know it's fantasy) then we'll see the "third coming" of AEK and that time it would likely win.

Would have been great if soviets/russians themselves switched to that solution and pushed SVD more into SVDK/SVU direction for company/battalion snipers. And likely not even prison, but a "retaliation strike" to make said person and their family an example, to terrorize populace. Narcos aren't much different from SS or Taliban or Red Khmers. But if your whole neighbourhood, thousands of people potentially own them? Then suddenly you're only facing prison, not retaliation. Because when they come for you, they now fear to turn their back to the doors and windows of other houses. If the whole city district has tens of thousands of potential gun owners, then suddenly police starts looking less into finding them and in many cases they prefer not to imprison the person, who defended themselves. Hmm, maybe there's a connection there between balance of gun quantity on both sides and how easily cops and narcos shit themselves when door creaks behind?:D

They aren't armed(at least you don't see it in the video and pepper spray doesn't count. Even if it's a fire extinguisher sized), but the kit they have is pretty good one. I'd say MUCH better then what even regulars and mercs they've sent into Ukraine got, not to mention the poor sods they've "mobilized" in occupied territory beforehand(that's also likely the guy with Mosin. Nobody cares for weird calibers either as NATO standardisation has higher priority), be it steel base or full polymer case. Nobody expected any rifle to actually "win" and Sig's rifle here is holding only through sheer lobby effort. Not saying it's bad, just that it's not actually filling any new role that current iterations of M4 and M16 don't already.

And he was the one leading the avtomat competition and group of designers that created the round. It's like as if you've cut awat Von Braun out of Autumn Sky. Even if fictional, Fedorov and Kalashnokov should have met. Simonov, Shpagin, Degtyarev. They all started under or consulted him in 1920's.

So they simply have no other options produced in Ukraine as AK-74 haven't gone through modernization program there. There were and (especially now) still are far more urgent things for Ukraine's miserable military budget. Sorry to say it, but the personal weapons of ordinary soldiers are at the bottom of the list. I guess the idea was to use small scale production for special units as stopgap until money becomes available otherwise I would have just imported the guns instead; 2)around the world special units require smaller dimensions from their weapons without sacrificing effectiveness. Weirdly enough it means increased weight in shorter gun. So they are ready to sacrifice even weight for mobility in close quarters or when exiting a vehicle.

  54.  @RavingRazik  yeah, I agree, it's a tragedy that public ignored how ukranian towns and military positions were constantly shelled from occupied territory for 8 whole years and how russian mercs used civilians to hide behind while doing so. I still recall the interview of a local priest, who had seen how the so called separatist rolled up a heavy mortar into the backyard of his church to use it as de facto hostage to prevent counter battery fire. Each morning they rolled it in on already prepared position, started the shelling and then after some time they would pack up and roll it away because they were afraid to lose the mortar. Thankfully there is a lot of drone and thermal footage that helped to document said instances. Thanks for reminding people about that, good job you. But I actually was talking about the poor guy from occupied territory. I know the context in other language can be sometimes hard to understand, hope that helps. Have a nice day;)

A point made moot by good old Madsen from 19th century. Oh wait, you probably don't even recall which ammo all of those use;) And which BAR do you mean? Good original one from WWI? Or the crappy M1918A2? Which had taken feed back from troops and instead of making two guns as was obviously required, they made one shitty? Troops wanted either a lighter gun with lower RPM and pistol grip for more control OR same RPM, but with heavier barrel, bipod and and bigger magazine. In other words automatic rifle OR LMG depending on how they've used their BARs. Result? Single gun with lower RPM, bigger weight, bipod, same small magazine and no change to stock. Make two separate guns, rechamber them for Swift cartridge and I might even agree with you. Until then, have a nice day.

  91. If KelTec had used wood furniture, they would have been right at home in 1890-1940 gun design era before everything started looking the same and cloning each other. It's like how MBTs(or let's be fair, Centurion and T-54 did) killed off tanks that you want to look at because nowadays they're all the same. The most excitement you may feel is when you find out that Romania did elongated T-72 with extra road wheel called TR-125 because that's what falls into exciting design for tank enthusiasts nowadays.   93. As far as movies and videogames go, this is actually one of the best representations of minigun. Usually instead we see overheating pieces of shit that fire at around 600RPM max and can't penetrate shit. Here 1)the scene is in slow motion, 2).308 rips the wall behind and right into the hallway because single brick isn't stopping it, 3)it is kind of justified because it's used against agents, who can dodge almost anything. Here they don't even have a chance, they don't even have time to fire back at exposed Neo. Sadly machineguns(and especially GPMGs) are always portrayed too weak in media. Concerning the custom build automatic shotguns - I believe you can't upload your own design into Matrix. The server ie Agents would know that new external asset was added into the system. What I always found weird is why they cut so much on movement and guns. Basically the same as other media with superpowered gun users. If they can jump over a street onto another building, they can run up the wall too. Same goes for guns the weight of which they don't feel. Grab two SAWs, backpack of 50 round belts and any body armor that won't constrict movement(weight doesn't matter, range of movement still does). Or better yet go straight for 40mm AGLs...

What do you think of subsonic ammo like 12.7x55mm for ASh-12 and of explosive ammo like 13x64mm for point defense guns like MG-131? In both cases it saved up A LOT on gun weight in cases where they weren't expected to shoot accurately(or rather at all) past 200m. Yeah, technically it did in completely different world. The next jump was Maxim/Madsen/Colt that helped WWI get stuck in the mud and thus allowed it to turn into a war of artillery. American Civil War/Crimean War is a weird case where a LOT of new tech appeared, but all the sides involved were too poor to mass produce any of it so the impact of new tech was on scale of statistical error. Plus they happened right BEFORE dynamite hit the market... Speaking of which, dynamite and later on smokeless powder were next revolutions. The latter one allowed existence of automatic firearms. Though the first prototype of Maxim apparently was designed to run on black powder. Would be cool to see if it's true and automatic gun on black powder is indeed possible without choking on its own grime.

In fact I don't recall gyrojet ammo ever tested together with main charge casing. While 40k Bolter was inspired (it was plagiated from Deathworld novel), bolter is specifically two stage weapon. Which to this day no 40k media had portrayed properly as they forget either the rocket part or the accelerator charge part😅

Because US just like Switzerland and Israel are one of the few examples of armed population not being a disaster. And unlike the other two, without military involvement. For a LOT of countries it is important as an example that can be used to argue in favor of certain legislations. The whole mess going on right now wouldn't be happening if Poland, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia had armed populace. So when US decides to have a nother brainfart and shoot itself in the leg it kind of DOES invalidate a certain line of arguments important to state with either authoritarian history or/and with insane neighbours. But here we instead have policy on "it's okay to arm 18 year old boys to kill other kids because we said so, but allowing guns for self defense is a big no-no". Worst part? They could have subverted it by having people from the future be sort of genestealers sabotaging modern day and all people sent to the future by force by orders of indoctrinated governments were just biomass for aliens to eat as well as sabotage of Earth ability to defend in current time. And third one it could have been a climate change antiwar movie where the twist would have been that there are no aliens, people from the future are just buying themselves a place on modern day world with their tech and in exchange government sends people, who blindly follow propaganda to the future where they won't be able to return.

Jokes about knives aside, when people mention that people in Europe don't need guns(without asking us if we agree btw.   227. Weird thing to say here, but, Brandon, you should look at videos of police(supposedly police as they have no markings) arresting people on red square. They aren't armed(at least you don't see it in the video and pepper spray doesn't count. Even if it's a fire extinguisher sized), but the kit they have is pretty good one. I'd say MUCH better then what even regulars and mercs they've sent into Ukraine got, not to mention the poor sods they've "mobilized" in occupied territory beforehand(that's also likely the guy with Mosin. Then protesters were all rounded up as looters. A year ago Hong Kong protests that you all ignored also had strange looting(though some is real, it's hard to get info there).
