  1. Degtyarev was a great designer... who sadly wasn't a fan of finishing, refining and fixing his designs. He could have made a belt feed adapter for DP-28 just like Shpagin did for his(Degtyarov's) DK turning it into renowned DShK(deserving or not is different question), but instead he chased new medal for new gun aka DS-39. Which wasn't ready neither for adoption, nor for mass production. Imagine if soviet troops had RP-46 in 1941? Gunner being able to use drums on the move and switch to belt feed when he gets into position and assistant gunner with adapter and belts catches up?

  4.  @medved3027  yes, they were. That makes it only funnier. In Russian Empire you die of famine because it's backwards feudal society, in USSR you die because record harvest was taken away by force and sold to "corrupt and greedy capitalists" to buy new weapon prototypes from them, lol:D
