Because for their sake you believe that if they are in trouble, you have hope that every day more is another chance for some solution to arrive. But when it's you, you're far more realistic on your chances. That girl either lives in a country with much higher standard of living, healthcare and social support then 99% of viewers here or/and she's from a rich family, who can afford it.
