Are there examples where said "superpowered evil side" is actually the real owner of the body striking out to protect it, but also to get back into control while optionally heroic protagonist of the series/show/book is actually a hitchhiker that stole the ride to get revenge or save someone or to keep promise?

In your case superpowered part coming from the fact that the original owner is a professional soldier with no remorse, whom you don't want to get anywhere near the people you're trying to protect. Like for example hijacking a hitman sent to kill you and your family, but having enough time to at least stop him from going after said family. Now you're stuck with guy, whom is trying to kill them if he gets in control, as your only tool to save them.

Sadly Bethesda failed to recognise it on multiple occasions. That's why people love New Vegas so much, it's not a post-apocalypse story, it's a story of "last ranger/outlaw of Wild West" in the Mojave before civilization takes over it in one form or another. It may be Vegas finally rising up, it may be NCR coming with all its good and bad, it may be a regime of House centered on bringing back "old days" or it may be an ugly face of civilization in the form of legion that throws away any pretense of pre-War ideals and instead follows the rule of might. But it is still a story of Wasteland giving up to civilization. And story of how Courier Six became an Overseer of BigMT facility thus "leaving the world"...

@jackwhite8204 that's the part Tolkien prefered not to touch upon. For example his orcs are based on combination of legend, but also real slavs, vikings and mongols. He had said that they are evil by nature and can't be redeemed. Mind you, when he said it, british jingoism was all the rage and "commies" were dehumanized as easy target all eover wstern Europe. Time passes, certain events happen, true horror of Holocaust gets exposed alongside at least a quarter of what was done to slavs, romanies, chinese, koreans and many others. And suddenly out of nowhere good old professor changes his opinion to saying that orcs aren't evil, they're "just following orders"(does that sound familiar?) and real culprits are only Morgoth and Sauron. But I really like this part of his worldview truly shifting or at least pretending to follow the new trends.

@Crandaddygaming Nah, it doesn't require more effort. I'd even go as far as to say it's easier as it removes the need to set up background of your character and how they know everything. You're just an explorer, who travelled along with an expedition to a yet unexplored city. You seek lost tech, forgotten valuables and simply breaking down millions of tons of steel and concrete you see before you into materials that can be sold to the state you came from. Add New York and Philadelphia, add sequence of arriving on a train and unloading with hundreds of other workers and equipement, add characters coming from both Commonwealth and Washington DC without mentioning who won(or just go with traditional "everyone lost"). Boom, you have Fallout 5. Just divide the city into many load zones so that you can avoid making buildings inaccessible. It also means that you can add new zones of this two cities in DLCs. Won't spoil more of the plot though;)

@monfernova nope, the point of Berserk is actually the reverse. Guts fame grows, but the nature of that fame doesn't change - people still see him as a devil in human form. Only those near him know the truth... or see brighter shades:D Because in the end this connection is the only thing that would allow Guts to win over Godhand. Remember Heart of Evil? Remember how it's fueled by human emotions, wishes and fears just like 40k Warp? Guts can't win. Griffith can't lose(in fact he might even "rebel" in the future and kill some of the other members of Godhand). But from the eyes of those very same common peasants, who fuel Heart of Darkness... they see Black Swordsman as Satan and Griffith as Jesus. The very masks they forged themselves and had worn. So what happens when Guts falls to Griffiths hand in the end before the eyes of hundreds of thousands and rumours go out of this to tens millions in mere days? They see saint slay devil. Guts's death rips out the very battery from Heart of Darkness. The belief. The fear. The very things that powered it end for that one moment. Griffith, Godhand, all demons just lose their only source of magic power. And they turn back into ordinary humans. Era of magic ends, fantasy dies, masquerade falls.

Funnily enough, apparently GW doesn't want the swarm to be stopped at all so unlike Starcraft, Halo, Starship Troopers and so on any victory against Tyranids would be written off as not changing anything. Even if they're getting stomped by Necrons, whom Tyranids shouldn't be able to counter.

Well, nowadays it is Banner, who's evil. He experimented on humans in efforts to create supersoldiers, partake in creation of WMDs including gamma bomb and bioweapons. Savage Hulk is basically a child version of Banner that strikes against all abuse and doesn't want to strike first while Joe Fixit aka Grey Hulk is more of a guy, who just likes the power and to use it for his own benefit while also not being evil. In current iteration only evil Hulk is Baner himself being in control of Hulk body because he operates differently then Hulks, he tries to justify his own actions to himself.

@Steadyaim101 "Ukraine"(not exactly Ukraine in modern sense, but ok) wanted recognition and independence because Poland's policy of cultural genocide in Commonwealth. Grand Duchy was made from several distinctive cultures after all. There were suggestions to reform Commonwealth to fix this, but they were strangled in the crib by polish shlyahta. Just like british(and french, russians, austro-hungarians, ottomans and chinese. Last one ended fell apart before WWI, France fell after WWII, three in the middle lost WWI despite Russian Empire being on winning side;)) ignored all suggestions to federalize British Commonwealth until they lost their superpower status:D

@SEBASTIEN WYSZNIEWSKI you would be surprised, but aztecs ALSO fell to inner political and social struggles and to their neighbours they've alienated even before spaniards arrived. It is VERY hard to overwhelm an empire on the peak of its cohesion by an outsider force and such examples are very rare. It's kind of hard to control conquered lands if no one is willing to collaborate with you and everyone hates you for taking down their (arguably) superior (in their opinion) state. Empire that isn't ready to keel over due to being a shitty place to live in also inspires more people to fight and work harder to preserve it.

@SEBASTIEN WYSZNIEWSKI and to elaborate the point further, opinion I heard and continue to hear quite a lot in Belarus is that PLC could have survived if 1) constitution came in before first dissolution; 2)serfdom was abolished at the same time; 3)all nationalities, languages and religions have gotten equal opportunity for representation in politics. Not much more is needed. Let a single generation mature in such conditions and neither Russia, nor Germany, nor AH will be able to do anything. Because their own soldiers were serfs and it would be hard to justify such a war now!:D

@dndamn IF we are lucky enough to live that long:D Kind of. That was my best bet once based on available info. Then he soft retconned Heart of Evil. I just don't see the way Guts would suddenly go full Saitama and gain enough power to challenge the Godhand. Even if Femto goes completely mad and kills all other members, he would still be too powerful. Plus this way I see at least some point to Beast plotline.
