The problem is that EVERYONE thought of that and that's modern trains. The famous french TGV entered the scene during the same time as France was building hundreds of nuclear power stations. It's literally a nuclear train;)

@IsopropylAlcohol5891 1)your comment implies that they should remain unelectrified; 2)that 1970's oil crisis didn't sucker punch the country to its knees and that mass focus on nuclear power stations would have greatly diminished that impact. As a result you have a country who has high speed rail, electirified railways and massive power infrastructure less dependent on oil imports. High investments, but far less losses during the crisis too.
