Why weren't carriers themselves then retired under the threat of supersonic transcontinental strategic bombers carrying cruise missiles and nuclear submarines? /cough/ because they're great FOBs and troop transports for beating up smaller countries just like battleships weren't a one trick poy that was somehow hard countered by a few planes /cough/
