@johndorilag4129 yes but to say the Dunkirk pirates ‘very much limited’ the Dutch empire is a stretch by any measure. They preyed on a lot of shipping so resources were indeed put into taking them out of action. But very much limited, no. The Spanish did of course impact the Dutch empire tremendously, but ironically enough, they also made the Dutch republic happen in the first place.
