the entire crew had them not just the pilot. they even had a thigh holster they used to carry it on them. it was also used in the apcs. yes it was a status symbol due to how rarely the soviet helicopters and apcs were taken out with the guns still being salvageable. they often traded them for several heavy duty machine guns that could take out light armored vehicles or for rocket launchers.

@txdeskpop still very hard to get but not as impossible nowadays as a krink parts kit. recievers either as blanks "which are not legally saleable to anybody else or transferable unless you get it engraved per atf requirements as well as forms filed out with taxes paid", or incomplete transferable meaning you can sell or transfer the gun you make with the transferable receiver after you put it with the parts such as trigger group, trigger, stock etc. https://akresources.childersguns.com/search/label/AK%20Build%20Services https://akresources.childersguns.com/search/label/Parts%20Kit%20Suppliers https://www.childersguns.com/Receivers you gotta lots of reading and looking up stuff. don't expect cheap expect easily perhaps 3 grand when all is said and done.

the aks74 does have the long barrel. this is the short barrel version which was issued to apc and hind helicopter crews . it was not standard issue

keep dreaming. the parts kits alone cost three grand.

the ammo isn't a problem. problem is krink part kits and krink semi auto recievers are very hard to get. a krink parts kit is often three grand nowadays. the semi auto recievers are also a huge issue since no company makes complete ones anymore.
