  3. This is a good start. The impact on combat effectiveness is yet to be seen. Harsh training and conditions do yield strong and adaptive soldiers, but there is no point of training program if there are no volunteers or people available to train. It will be very fascinating to watch the army handle this delicate balancing act. Another reason not mentioned here is that the young have seen the US go into pointless wars that were judged poorly by history. They see how wars are started by politicians who take their orders from powerful lobbying groups like AIPAC. So Gen Z and the next generations know that they will fight wars not for a just cause, but on behalf of lobbying groups.
