Freedom to speak (irreverently or not), which is attached to the freedom of conscience, is the right to express opinions without government restraint as a democratic principle (provided it is not obscene material, plagiarism, defamation, nor true threats). Freedom of speech (parrhesia) is a confirmation of intellectual progress.

  2.  @nigeljohnson9820  Your comment is outlining the fundamental principles of civilized modern society (the rule of law under democracy). Indeed, religions are nonesense, but as long as they promote humanism, they are no threat. The FreeWorld must not bend toward primitive obsolete silly convictions, but lend a hand to guide them (until they vanish behind general progression).
