Thanks for honoring freedom of speech. From the book … The True Believer … Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements … by Eric Hoffer. Published 1951. Fanatics When the old order begins to crack, he wades in with all his might and recklessness to blow the whole hated present to high heaven. He glories in the sight of a world coming to a sudden end. To hell with reforms! All that already exists is rubbish and there is no sense in reforming rubbish. He justifies his will to anarchy with the plausible assertion that there can be no new beginnings so long as the old clutters the landscape.

Men of Words The fanatics and the faith-hungry masses, however are likely to invest such speculations with the certitude of holy writ, and make them the fountainhead of a new faith. Jesus was not a Christian, nor was Marx a Marxist.

Philosophy at its best. "Wisdom lies in knowing that we do not know." --Plato "It is the mark of an educated man to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." -- Aristotle "Human beings are perhaps never more frightening than when they are convinced beyond doubt that they are right." -- Laurens van der Post "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts." --Bertrand Russell "Not to be absolutely certain is, I think, one of the essential things in rationality." --Bertrand Russell "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." -- Voltaire "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities." --Voltaire "Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction." --Blaise Paschal "What the world needs is not dogma but an attitude of scientific inquiry combined with a belief that the torture of millions is not desirable, whether inflicted by Stalin or by a Deity imagined in the likeness of the believer." --Bertrand Russell
