Language continuously evolves This topic is not exactly one for the language evolved group. There are those who would argue that the pronoun “they” is plural. Yet the use of “they” as singular, especially for non-binary individuals, is largely accepted today. Language evolves and absorbs over time. Merriam-Webster notes that use of the word “they” as a singular pronoun has been going on since at least the year 1300. So “they” as a singular pronoun evolved. Some of us have not, I guess.

For those who are adamant that masks don't work to prevent Coronavirus disease ... maybe the next time you end up in the operating room in a hospital, you can suggest to the nurses and doctors and anesthesiologists that it's not necessary for them to wear any masks, because you believe that masks don't help prevent contagion of any sort. You can't have your cake and eat it too. And by the way, rather than Corona virus, that most often killed old people, had the pandemic been that of polio, or smallpox, people would have been trampling over each other to get the vaccinations, because if you didn't, and your children ended up with those wretched diseases ... wouldn't you appear as the most horrible parents on planet earth?

Emily Dickinson was doing it over 100 years ago. Second, identifying one’s personal pronouns is not some trendy idea. I participated in seminars on this topic whilst working at Vanderbilt University, where I learned this is a way to show respect toward others. Channeling my inner Ask Abby, it is perfectly acceptable when meeting someone to not only say what your preferred pronouns are, but to ask the individual what theirs are as well.

  4.  @Incomudro1963  If you don't want to wear masks in the outside world to protect others from your germs ... then you should not expect those in operating rooms in hospitals to wear masks to protect YOU from their germs.

  5. My guess is … Republicans NOW in office will be lining up behind Donald Trump as the “most likely” person to become the next President. And the reason for that behavior, is that they are terrified of Donald Trump. And rightly so, because they witnessed from past experiences how Donald’s nature is to be very cruel to those that dare to cross him. When Donald was first running for the office of the President, many Republicans were laughing at him. But they didn't realize the gullibility of the citizens that were enthralled by Donald's "blustery ability to charm others with his countless lies." Many Republicans were fired by Donald when he was in office, for not towing Donald's "LINES" … while others had their reputations destroyed by his ability to be downright cruel. And other Republicans that had been in office just simply gave up and quit in exasperation. If I was a Republican now in office ... I also would be terrified to cross Donald ... just in case people are still gullible enough to vote him back in as the next President ... and this time to watch him complete the job of overthrowing the government and becoming the first DICTATOR to destroy the United States SUPREME COURT ... and ... what used to be a government for the people. If Donald wins ... it will no longer BE the United States governing the citizens. It will be Donald Trump governing all citizens ... in offices and not in offices ...as Donald will keep on USING people as nothing other than a means to his own ends. Vladimir Putin would be ecstatic if Donald were to win … because he knows that Donald looks UP to him as his IDOL ... while not realizing that Vladimir is much more experienced and cunning than ever could be ... THE DONALD.
