The organization known as The Clergy Project is based on ex-members of the clergy ... that for years had been non-believers, while staying in the pulpit ... preaching as though they still believed. The reason they stayed so long ... is if they admitted that they no longer believed in the existence of a creator, they would lose everything ... their families ... their "friends" ... their financial ability to survive ... everything. In the past, many (no longer believing) members of the clergy ended their lives, because they were caught in a mental trap … thinking they were alone in their confusion of why what they were preaching no longer made any sense to them. There wasn’t anybody they felt they could talk to about their confusion and feelings of utter hopelessness. The Clergy Project ... helps those men and women … by showing them that there IS hope for new lives … free of all religious myths. Following is an old interview. Since the time of the interview, there are many new non-believing members of clergy that joined “The Clergy Project.” If you listen to the following interview, and if you so choose, you might learn to feel compassion for these ex-members of clergy. Truth??? According to whom? The only time we relate to words from a speaker, is if the speaker tells us what we already believed before the speaker started to speak. Truth itself ... is up for grabs. Truthiness "act or quality of preferring concepts or facts one wishes to be true, rather than those known to be true," catch word popularized in this sense by U.S. comedian Stephen Colbert, declared by American Dialect Society to be "2005 Word of the Year."
