Heck...a Barbary Coast leader once told Thomas Jefferson that the reason they were attacking U.S. ships and taking slave-prisoners, despite the U.S. not being at war or even belligerent towards them, that "Our religion tells us we can do this, the Koran" with a completely straight face.
