This is a complex situation. As a founding member of the UN, Turkey's people have rights outlined in Articles 19 and 20 of the UDHR -- freedom of expression, and lawful assembly. But if it was an unlawful assembly, then they could be criminally liable under local/national statutes. I have a problem with that one protestor being put into what is clearly not a standard police car...that is a slippery slope towards secret police style tyranny...and how do we know they are "plainclothes" police? They could be some ultra-religious group (of any stripe) posing as cops, or have the tacit support of that particular local police department. Erdogan needs to tread a fine line: guaranteeing basic human rights (if Turkey wants to be considered 'European'), while still being able to freely express his own cultural/religious views about LGBT+. Tactics like this only increase anger; why not go the opposite route, and promote the benefits of straight culture/tradition to demonstrate why he thinks it's better?
