 @HawkeyeRides Mazda premium? Mazda are considered bog standard mass produced everyday cars similar to Ford or VW here.
Agreed that a Volvo compares favourably to the general dross for sale in US, but we have the equivalent dreariness in Europe too with the likes of bland brands like Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Skoda, Ford, Opel, SEAT, VW and their utilitarian vehicles. Granted USA have an unhealthy obsession with "bang for the buck" at expense of quality, but I still think luxury for Volvo is a bit anachronistic and I say that as someone who has owned 2 Volvo, a Polestar and has an XC90 currently on order.
Also, a quick look at US sites shows cars sold in America are considerably cheaper than the same model in Europe.
PS, I know it's not easy to tell necessarily but I'm being light hearted here, not combative.
