American accents and intonation is annoying. Everything is not a question.

@jonb914 I speak Norwegian Jon, thats a tonal language, but English is not.

@jonb914 I obviously know it doesnt, but a rising intonation BELONGS in Norwegian but sounds absolutely ridiculous in English. That's the whole point. A rising intonation in English in the absence of a question is neither an accent nor is it a dialect, its a failure of DICTION.

@jonb914 Jesus, I presumed you had the comprehension to realise that I was talking about how it has crept into English. Clearly I was wrong.

@TheDisell It's complete failure if the reason for rising intonation is as a result of Valley Girl influence. Tone is suppsed to help convey meaning. Why intonate if its not for a question or to indicate surprise? Certain languages are tonal but English is not one of them and having every sentence having a rising intonation at the end is laughable amd makes one sound unintelligent and ridiculous. It is comparable with the absurd scattering of "like" in sentences which is now commonplace and also not necessary.

@TheDisell "Checking for a buy in" is asking for agreement, it is a question by default. For example "agreed?", "sure?", "right?" etc Who actually wants to sound like an adolescent American or Australian when they are an adult?
1
@TheDisell How am I grasping at straws? It's you who is providing embarassing reasons for such infantile speech habits. If adults talk like that then they're cleaning toilets and flipping burgers. They arent engineers, doctors, lawyers, scientists etc. It isn't outdated to dislike the way certain backward countries are bastardising English. It's having standards. You sound like someone from that film Idiocracy.

@TheDisell Have, like, literally a good day like?

@TheDisell I didnt even imply that it was class related. My assertion was that the annoying intonation amd inflection that seems to be endemic in America and Australia is an irritating new trend that makes whoever uses it sound like a moron.
