Any boots on the ground from foreign forces would he seen as provocation to Russia and an acceptance that "we" as you put it are at war with Russia. "We" are not and supplying Ukraine with equipment does not mean "we" are involved. America wasn't in WW2 until December 41, despite supplying the allies.
