If you look up boring in the dictionary, there's a picture of an Asian car.
17
If you buy a car like a Hyundai, Kia, Honda, Nissan etc it is telling everyone you don't care about cars, driving, luxury, quality materials, design or nice interiors. Basically, if you're thinking of getting something like that, save your money and get the bus instead.

@mrgoodkat3722 Type R are the car of the chav, an absolutely hideous car. You have to understand that I'm not being 100% literal. Of course some of these manufacturers are going to make something half decent, but 99% of Asian cars are dull as ditchwater.
3
Once you've had a car with a heated steering wheel, you'll never want to go without unless you live somewhere hot.
2
@mrgoodkat3722 Can you argue the Type R isn't a chav car? Every single one I have ever seen is driven by a chav
2
@mrgoodkat3722 very true. At the moment there is little point in electric cars. Forstly they are barely any more green unless you do in excess of 50k miles in them, and secondly they are far too expensive still. I could buy and run a 5 Series Tourer for five years before I'd even reached the cost of a comparitive electric car. Furthermore, they will get even more expensive when you have to pay by the mile to use them when the government need to apply tax to make up for the loss of fuel duty.
2
@mrgoodkat3722 I agree, there's no point yet The day you can get one ( for the same price as a comparitive ICE car) , which has a 450 mile range and a 3 minute recharge time like filling a car with petrol is when I will get one, why on earth would anyone bother until then? Its not as if they are especially green and if you are the sort of person who only keeps a car for three years then they are never more green than having an ICE car. The ICE car is the ultimate in convenience and the problem with electric is cost, range, charging time and the fact that most people don't have a driveway/garage/dedicated parking spot etc in which they can set up a charger.

@chappy2121 Every country makes some boring cars, but virtually every Asian and American car is boring with awful, cheap interiors.
1
@ferguscasey5301 Performance wise they might have been good. But could you really drive down the street in an Impreza, Skyline, GTR etc without a disguise on? The only Japanese/Asian car I would ever consider is the Datsun 2000GT from the 1960's, the rest can get stuffed.
1
@thegearknob7161 Every time I see one of those cars I cringe with embarrassment for the person driving it. It's like walking down the high street dressed like a Glam Rocker. They are just vulgar and tasteless and have zero style in my opinion.
1
@mrgoodkat3722 Depends where you live. In Britain they are ten a penny and usually driven by adolescent, manual labour types with no education who think a drainpipe sized exhaust and revving an underpowered front wheel drive car with a massive spoiler makes you look cool, whilst they simultaneously don't realise everyone just thinks they're wankers.

1
@mrgoodkat3722 There's quite a few different versions of the type R. I agree there are less of the wedge type Civic, but plenty of other kinds.
1
@greymark420 Christ, I couldn't drive a Civic without a paper bag on my head.
1
@Shane-zx4ps no need for that. Also, in what way is the Civic Type R ever the best hatchback ever made. All those superfluous wings, ugly body kits and fake performance additions are just embarrassing. Plus, if you're going to accuse me of being uneducated, probably best your own post isn't full of errors isn't it?
1
@mrgoodkat3722 well, you certainly don't see many of them. Accords haven't been sold in the UK for years. Not even sure if they make them at all.
1
@mrgoodkat3722 I was meaning Accords in general, but I looked and they still sell the Accord in America, actually looks not bad, although saloon cars are dying out. There was an Accord estate over here about 8 years which was not bad, but in general I think Honda are incredibly dull cars.
1
@greymark420 Not narrow minded at all. Simply saying what I see and expressing an opinion. It's a bit like when you see someone driving a modified car or walking a Staffie. 99% of the time they fall into a particular bracket. I don't see any different with Civic owners in general.
1
@mrgoodkat3722 It does, and most people don't care about cars which is why we have the dross from Kia, Hyundai, Vauxhall, Nissan, Honda, Ford etc, but I don't think its an excuse to make such appallingly dreary cars. You could design a more interesting interior for example and it wouldn't alienate any buyers. Hopefully I will never be in a position where I have to drive a car so dull.
1
@mudskipper0075 They still suffer the same VW issue of drab interiors.
1
@mrgoodkat3722 There are some quite good looking electric cars though with nice interiors, but I wouldn't include Tesla in this. The model S is clearly based on the design of a Jaguar XF but looks like they have stuck a straw in it and inflated. Jaguar, Audi, Porsche, Polestar etc are making much better looking cars then them.
1
@karlos543 No car is that unreliable these days. You get the odd electrical issue and cars that could be put together a bit better, but it's incredibly rare to be left at the side of a road these days, and this is backed up by lengthy warranties. Pretty much the only redeeming feature of Asian cars is that in terms of reliability they are top of the tree, but given how small the faults are on most cars, is it really worth having such a boring car?
1
@greymark420 You think that all those body kits and spoilers actually have a performance effect? Come on, a Civic Type R is the very definition of the veneer of fake performance. The current Civic is also one of the ugliest cars on the road and in Type R guise, simply hideous and embarrassing.
1
@greymark420 Why do you think Honda put all that crap on it? To appeal to lawyers, solicitors, dentists, doctors, engineers, company directors, scientists etc or adolescent working class men?
1
@greymark420 It's called an opinion and my opinion is as valid as yours. You might think it's a good looking and stylish car, but I do not. At least I give a reason for it, whilst you have not. By the way, the speed you are able to drive it at means that any aerodynamic benefits of a bodykit cannot be engaged. They are superfluous and even if they did work, you'd have to be a complete bell end to drive a car around the streets of the UK as if you were some sort of moron in a Fast N Furious film, something which would back up the stereotype of the type of people who USUALLY buy this type of thing.
1
@greymark420 That's why I corrected it. No need to be a pedant.
1
@jamesinbradford5882 What are you on about? If its under warranty it doesn't matter who made the car. How often do you ever see a broken down car anyway? Hardly ever.
1
@jamesinbradford5882 I've seen all sorts of cars broken down over the years, Asian ones included, but it's rare to see any these days. Furthermore, it isn't true that if something like a turbo going one day after a warranty going you have to be full. Usually the dealer will make a contribution. I'd rather risk that than have to drive a Hyundai.
1
@jamesinbradford5882 Well first of all I wouldn't own a car outside warranty. I was simply explainimg to you that it isn't true to say you will always have to pay outside warranty. I've also said I'd rather not own a dreary Asian car. Also, a Honda doesn't have a five year warranty, that only applies to the power train, the rest is three years. I don't know what you are on about using TV's as an example because they only come with a 12 month warranty.
1
@jamesinbradford5882 I've had Jags, BMW, Audi, Mercs, Volvo's etc and never had any serious issues with any of them. Not a single breakdown at all. Therefore I don't feel the need to lower my motoring enjoyment and standards by driving something so deficient in aspiration as anything from the Korean peninsula. My priority isn't the badge but rather the quality that comes with these badges. I don't think Korean cars are good enough. They do what they are supposed to do, but I aspire to more than something that is designed to just be "good enough" and nothing else.
1
@jamesinbradford5882 What about it? I don't really care, I never own a car for that long. I only own a car within the warranty, and if I didn't I would simply buy a warranty. Reliability implies that cars routinely break down, its simply not the case. Never broken down in 25 years of driving and I've had some real bangers in my early years of driving.
1
@adamcox2503 The estate is nice.
1
@Robloxian gamer girls Does it matter? It's YouTube and I could say whatever I like and you wouldn't have to believe me. I agree that the Range Rover Sport could be perceived as a little vulgar, but I would say that it is better to be something which engenders actual emotion than something which achieves the worst thing a car can be, and that is to be boring. Japanese/Korean cars seem to have this knack of not having an audience in mind, they just create a car which they aim to mass produce and which has virtually no redeeming features. A jack of all trades, that does a competent job but which no one aspires to own and few could be proud to do so. I'd much rather they produced something which showed they care and which demonstrated they had passion for making cars, but all they do is make insipid cars like this. I can't respect a car maker with such scant regard for their product. I get its about money in the end, but that doesn't mean your products have to be so predictable and so uninspiring. Their cars are the vehicular equivalent of a glass of water.
1
@jamesinbradford5882 The problem with such a list is that it doesn't tell you what parts of the car are failing or proving unreliable enough to require a visit to the dealer. When I had a Jag it was simply the trim that was poorly put together. It didn't make it unreliable but I did require a few trips. It doesn't tell you if it's the electrics, engine gearbox, brakes, suspension, software etc, and so is effectively a useless list.
1
@Krazeera I think Lexus suffer from the same problem as other Asian cars in that they don't have a market in mind. They also don't seem to truly understand what it means to make a luxury/premium car, much like Lincoln and Cadillac also fail on this and why they aren't sold in Europe much and why the likes of Lexus and Infiniti are seen as second rung premium cars compared to the German premium cars. I do like the Lexus RX, but there's something lacking in the rest of their models and I particularly hate Asian switchgear. Its just awful and made of the sort of plastic you find in a chocolate box. They are around 10% off being as good as a German premium car and like virtually all Asian cars the interiors are a disjointed mess. Lexus are also unacceptably slow in most of their models.
1
@powershin12 You don't get Genesis, K9 or the Grandeur in Britain, so I don't really care. Those are US centric cars which is also a country with a history of not quite getting what luxury or premium means. Just making something bigger and softer isn't luxury. People in Europe simply reject the offerings of Asian car makers in this particular segment, and with good reason. We have our own car companies who do a better job in this segment, so no one really ever needs to consider the posh version of Toyota, Nissan or Hyundai and probably why these companies don't even try to sell them here.
1
@powershin12 Well you don't get them in Europe, so I don't really care about them. Nor do we get Acura, Lincoln or Cadillac. I already said that I thought Asian cars missed the point of what luxury/premium actually means, that they don't really target a particular audience and that these brands are about 10% behind in comparison to their European competition. I don't think that's an unfair assessment from my perspective. If these cars were so good and a match for European cars in terms of being premium then I would expect to see them here in greater numbers, but the likes of Cadillac actually withdrew from the market because no one wanted them and the likes of Genesis have never even bothered to try whilst Lexus hardly sell any.
1
@oliverstemp9132 Hyundai are the definition of dreary.
1
Is that because it's "bombproof"?
