@derekr1113 Please explain why you think EVs are the future. Transport is only 20% of global CO2 and Europe is only 6% of global CO2, meaning European transport emissions only account for 1.2% of global CO2, and of that amount cars only account for 0.99% Big bloody deal. There is no reason to rush this through.

@CarsandDiecasts Yes they can. People aren't getting poorer. Just because you can't afford them, don't pretend you speak for everyone else.

I find it confusing that Matt refers to Nissan as "iconic". That's a bit of a stretch in my opinion. They're just drab and dreary and yes they might have made a few good cars, but even Opel/Vauxhall/Ford etc have made the odd interesting car.

No one bought GTR's
1
@lilmeister44 You never did, they were a low volume car. You can't expect a company to make a car like that in huge volumes and at an affordable price. I don't see many 7Series around either, you know why? Because they never built many to begin with. You do realise car makers for market research right? They're not going to flood. Market with a car that people can't afford.
1
@lilmeister44 They're still not a mass produced car, that's the point and they have a limited market. You said you don't see any, now you say you see loads. Make your mind up mate.
1
@paulmatthews9366 You're clutching at straws. Most people buy cars for a mixture of reasons and "sports cars" don't really meet many of those requirements which is why they're mostly bought new by rich playboys and when the cat is 20 years old by sad chavs in tracksuits. Virtually no one will lament the loss of Nissan.
1
@paulmatthews9366 It's not sad to see all brands disappear. No one misses British Leyland for example.

Japanese cars are like American cars. Boring, cheaply built, poor quality materials and clearly built for mass market with absolutely no imagination whatsoever. The equivalent in Europe is Opel/Vauxhall. They are the sort of car for people who listen to Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift.
1
@jdmguy44 No, it shows I have a different opinion. This conceited attitude that people claim when someone disagrees with them they know "nothing about cars" is hilarious. How many truly great, beautiful, quality, well designed, iconic cars have come out of either Japan or America, and when was the last one? They'll make the odd interesting car, but by and large it's mass produced dreariness.
1
@jdmguy44 Well why don't you name me some American and Japanese cars made in the last 5 years which aren't vanilla like tje dreary Ed Sheeran and talentless Swift? Can you not understand a simile when you see it?
1
@shabba890 Because these are the companies most guilty of producing dreary, uninspiring products. For example if you look at an American or Asian car interior they are in general(with a few exceptions )incredibly dull and cheaply put together. The quality of the materials, the lack of ergonomics, the sheer boring layout doesn't lend itself to creating anything aspirational or interesting. Americans for example favour value for money over quality, and that's reflected in their output and lack of overseas sales. I understand why they do it, but once people get bored with it and companies don't respond with what the market wants then they go out of business. There's a good reason why US designed cars don't do well abroad, we have different tastes, there's a good reason why Nissan is going out of business and it's that people are bored with their products. I don't think there's anything controversial or wrong with what I've said. No car company is entitled to stay in business, and if you don't make products that people want, you deserve to go out of business don't you?
1
@shabba890 Because they're incredibly boring manufacturers. You deserve to go out of business if you don't respond to market demand.
1
@shabba890 I asked you to name American or Japanese cars that are deemed desirable, interesting, aspirational or which are stylish. I'll take your silence as confirmation you can't name any, yet you wonder why the likes of Honda and Nissan are struggling so badly? By the way I don't want Nissan to make hideous chavvy boy racer cars, but they simply don't even make a car which are seen as a market leader in any of the various car segments.
1
@shabba890 I asked first and you don't answer a question with a question but seeing as you ask Merc, BMW, Volvo and Audi are all producing more aspirational and desirable cars whilst even the likes of Skoda are producing more imaginative, better built and more practical cars from better quality materials. Japanese cars are largely incredibly dull and you haven't done anything to even question that opinion. The Civic Type R is a hideous chav mobile. Why on earth would you mention such a wretched cliché of a car?
1
@shabba890 Ha ha ha. It's a joke car with absolutely preposterous styling varnished with the veneer of fake performance designed to appeal to chavs who wear great tracksuits and white trainers.
1
@shabba890 M cars and AMG are /were V8. Civics are clown cars for people who like ineffective spoilers and 3D number plates.
1
People DON'T want those cars at all, if they did they'd buy them. Just because a small section of chavs wants cars like that, doesn't mean the general public does.
1
@neilturner6749 Speak for yourself. The prices of consumer goods etc has massively decreased. Things like TVs, washing machines, flights, electronics have generally reduced in price. Things like Petrol have also not increased considerably with inflation. Furthermore we have many financial arrangements in regards to PCP, leasing, HP etc which make cars more affordable and attainable to all sorts of people who could never get near them before. In the "good old days" you had to save up for stuff. Now it's instant gratification and instant credit.
1
@neilturner6749 Compared to when? I'm sick of hearing about people leading poverty all the time.
1
@fs5866 He made the rather naive statement that car enthusiasts (whatever that means) don't buy new cars. Obviously that's a crock of nonsense or they wouldn't make cars. What do you mean there aren't "any cars for enthusiasts" on the market. What you really mean is there are no cars on the market which fall into your price range. You telling me that as a self proclaimed "car enthusiast" there's nothing you wouldn't buy? You don't get to demand car companies make cars you want in your price range.
1
@VIPOdyssey176 Obviously someone is or there wouldn't be second hand ones.
1
@LordDaveKoresh People are obviously buying cars otherwise there would be none on second hand market. They clearly are selling them, but they have always been low volume because people primarily buy cars for practical reasons. Its really obvious.
1
@LordDaveKoresh Depends where you live. Why don't you get a better job? Cars like the z have always been a low volume car favoured by chavs, and they've gone out of fashion, same way that Subaru and Mitsubishi Evo went out of fashion. Virtually no one cares about Z Cars or GTR's.
