It shows in accident statistics too. European drivers are so much less likely to have an accident than Americans.

That's just total nonsense, plus an automatic also can be used manually anyway on most models.

In Europe these days, it's really only the budget cars that still have manual, but if you don't pass a test in a manual you aren't allowed to drive a manual, so basically everyone in Europe can drive a manual even though they probably don't own one anymore. My last 6 cars have been automatic, but I can still easily go back to driving manual if I have a hire car for example.

That's total nonsense. Pretty much only cheap cars are manual, so if anything you'll get laughed at for having a cheap manual car.

 @papalaz4444244 I'm a Scot living in Norway, vast majority of cars are automatic. Tyres are the most important thing, not gearbox.

@ldorman What do all the chavs in Corsa and Fiesta have? Probably still manual I imagine.

@ldorman I agree most new cars are auto these days, especially those above a certain price but I find it odd behaviour that you may be in the habit of gawking inside the cars in a car park.

@dunc71 What sort of person does that? Would love to know what you drive, probably a Vauxhall Corsa with a big exhaust.
