@bardhprendi2160 You tried to be a clever clogs and it backfired on you. It was you that should have "done some reading"

People don't hate EV's, they have legitimate concerns about how practical and affordable they are in terms of replacing their current cars. There is however something annoying about the cult of Tesla, but that doesn't equal hatred of EV cars. Musk is just a twat.
2
@ezerratchaga That's total nonsense. The Model S is in the same sector as an E class or a 5 series yet its about 40k more. Price is the most important metric, and its simply tok expensive not to mention the design is well outdated.
2
@gregandkaruna6674 Of course. If an EV is 70k and the equivalent ICE is 40k, you could run that ICE car for 5 years before you even get close to the cost of that EV. Unless you get good lease deals, there's literally no financial benefit of an EV, and even if you do get a good deal, you're breaking even at best. I will get an EV next but only because of the ridiculous fun of the acceleration not because its cheaper or because it is fractionally more green over its life
2
@ezerratchaga What the hell are you on about, the model 3 is a mass market car. Mercedes sold 325,000 cars in the US alone last year. Also, I don't care what the price in China is, because that doesn't equate to the price here. We have to pay more for them for a number of glaringly obvious reasons. Also, won't be long before the government starts charging EV users for road use.
2
@RickyT15 I'm testing a model 3 on Tuesday just for giggles. Don't think I'd ever get one as it's not good looking enough, built by Americans and Elon Musk is associated with them.
2
@chrisdodt No one is making money out of EV's really at present.
2
@johnmartens5963 do you really want 75% of the landscape covered in turbines and Photovoltaic cells to virtue signal?
1
Asian cars are really boring and American cars are really ugly.
1
I'm so tired of this useless argument. Is a Dodge Hellcat Italian now?
1
@bardhprendi2160 Stellantis is a merger, not a French takeover, and it's based in Amsterdam.
1
@ezerratchaga The Model S is not an S Class competitor. 😂😂😂
1
@ezerratchaga It's not. The Model 3 is 3 series size if not a little smaller, the S is 5 series size. The S Class is a lot bigger and considerably more emphasis on luxury. The Model S clearly took design cues from the first Jaguar XF and clearly aims at that E Class, 5 Series, A6 sector. Why would it aim at the S Class, 7 series sector when it's such a small niche market? A model S costs £75k for the base model, a 5 series costs £45k. I could run that BMW for 10 years and not have reached the cost of the Tesla.
1
@ezerratchaga You're the one who think the Model 3 is a premium car, its a mass market bog standard sedan. Why do I give a shit about a Camry, it isn't even sold in my country. In fact sedans are dying out. How do EV's have an advantage in ownership costs when they cost significantly more than the alternative ICE car? What about when you have to start paying to make up for the loss of fuel duty? Your 25k Tesla that you are banging on about is equivalent to something like a Ford Fiesta which costs about 15k EV's also rinse tyres and brakes.
1
@ezerratchaga People don't have a problem with EV's, it's the cult that surrounds Tesla and the fact Elon Musk is a complete prick. No one has a problem with Jaguar, BMW, Merc, Audi, Porsche, Polestar etc, it's just the smugness and sycophancy that surrounds Tesla in particular
1
@RickyT15 Companies already aren't making money out of EV's due to many factors, so selling them at a further loss isn't great business.
1
@RickyT15 Finding cheaper alternatives goes for everything though, and even if you could find something that brought an EV down to the price of an equivalent ICE car then the loss in fuel revenue is simply going to be added to the cost of electricity or use per mile, so it's never going to be a cheaper way to travel. I am getting an EV soon, but it's because I like the thrill of acceleration, not because I'm pretending it's green when it isn't or because I'm under the misapprehension that it's a cheaper form of motoring.
1
@RickyT15 I was initially worried about that, but I rarely deive for more than 200 miles per day, and if I did I'd just have to schedule a charge in. What I am concerned about is how much this drops in cold weather or if I am doing a higher % of driving at 75mph on motorways. I reckon I could live with a car which had a real world mileage of around 220 to allow for a bit of redundancy.
1
@RickyT15 Possibly but virtually no one actually buys a car outright anymore, they either rent or lease a car over 3/4 years so changing car isn't really a concern. Plus I'm moving to a property with a charger so it's not an issue to charge overnight. I appreciate the majority of people don't have driveways, garages or parking places though so the provision of rapid chargers is more important as I wouldn't want to get stuck on an 11 or even 22kw charger that will take over 2 hours to grt back to 80%
1
@RickyT15 Yeah, my pcp is up in January. Be sad to see my car go, but really interested in having a Polestar, might mean hiring a car if I actually have to go on a really long journey but it should meet my needs 99% of the time.
1
Are Toyota telling us something we didn't already know? 🤣
1
Americans don't need electric cars because their fuel is virtually given away. There is Ero incentive for an American to buy an EV
