It's not a transition as such, it's more a diversification of the sources of energy we have. 80% of our energy comes from oil and gas. It will take DECADES to change this. We have 30m plus properties supplied by gas in the UK, converting to an alternative would cost trillions. You going to pay so you can wear your halo? Furthermore, European cars are only 1% of global CO2. Even if you replaced them all it would only save the planet around 0.5% CO2 once all of those cars had covered 40k km.

Public services require goods and services (or don't you think so?), they are subject to inflation and in many cases are in direct competition for goods and services with the private sector. I didn't say public services cause inflation directly by existing, but they are affected by it, and they can help fuel it through demand pull inflation, especially when a country is experiencing zero growth.

Spending more on the NHS for example means we are buying more goods and services from the PRIVATE sector such as hospital equipment, medicines etc. This causes prices to go upwards and you're spending power reduces, you are therefore getting LESS for your money and this the NHS can supply less of a service. I didn't say spend less on the NHS, I said that public services consume private goods and services by default which is a cause of inflation, especially in times of low growth such as now as more money is chasing fewer goods. No one even mentioned bloody immigrants did they?

Given that I live in Norway I can confirm that it is not the case that Nordic countries do this as a matter of course. Also, why would a country look at investing in that NOW? They want to move away from the production of energy where hot water is produced, so all that investment would simply be wasted as oil and gas fired power stations will continue to reduce.

Only 65% of heating comes from District Heating in Denmark and as for it cheaper, why does Finland have the highest heating costs of Nordic countries if it is as widespread as you claim? Helsinki is on average €3243 to heat a 100m2 property, 5x Iceland ( who use geothermal) and 1/3rd more than Norway who don't use it.

Hydrogen would be fantastic, but there's no infrastructure. I live in Norway, and the infrastructure of electric cars makes it practical. I agree we should retain the choice, not least because UK emissions from cars is only 0.13% of global co2, so it isn't going to make any difference at all in terms of climate change.

Personally I don't think EVs work especially well in small, densely populated countries like the UK because there are simply not enough chargers and probably never will be. An EV takes about 15 times longer than a petrol car to charge/fill up, and only gets half the range so we need 30 times as many chargers as we have petrol pumps to make it work. I can't see that happening and as such we will need Petrol/Diesel for decades, and I'm fine with that. It works here in Norway because we have enough chargers and a sparse population and EVs have no VAT.

You can get photo ID in 90 seconds online.
