4th birthday? Why are you saying that as a matter of pride? You should be toilet trained between 2-3 at the latest.

@bridiesmith5110 by the 4th is far too late.

@bridiesmith5110 I didn't mention cutlery, I mentioned being toilet trained and out of nappies and 4 is way too late.

@bridiesmith5110 Because you should be far more independent at 4. There's no excuse to be wearing a bloody nappy at 4, you're nearly school age and you can't use the toilet? I could ride a bike at 4. You should certainly be able to use cutlery at 4, write your name, tie shoelaces etc. There's no reason not to be able to. It's called growing up and it's called parenting.

@bridiesmith5110 Why 4th? You think 3 years and 11 months is acceptable? Most children are toilet trained by 18-24 months, why on earth would anyone tolerate a child in nappies much beyond that?

@bridiesmith5110 Taking until four is down MOSTLY to parents not trying hard enough. Kids haven't become special needs in regards to toilet training in two generations. It's entirely parents being lazy or mollycoddling them.

@bridiesmith5110 Yes indeed, but my point was to the original poster who had made a comment to getting her three children out of nappies before they reached 4, as if that was some sort of respectable achievement or badge of honour . You should be able to do it long before 3, let alone 4 and it should be an embarrassment to any parent to take until 4 to get a child to use a toilet.
