@matthendin YOU DON'T dredge streams and rivers, only estuaries are dredged to stop sand bank build up and maintain navigation routes. Freshwater rivers are NOT dredged. You'd destroy the entire ecosystem of the river.

Rivers have NEVER been dredged. It's a misrepresentation. Lowland freshwater rivers only have banks capable of taking a 1:5 event roughly. These events are many magnitudes different .

@LondonSteveLee Not in FRESHWATER. Estuaries get dredged, freshwater rivers are far too small for dredging. Dredging would not have made the SLIGHTEST difference here.

Julia needs to stop talking about "dredging rivers". This has NEVER been done on freshwater rovers which are flooding here and will not make ANY difference. Normal lowland rivers can only contain a 1:5 level event. These are above 1:50 level events.
