@Novause March is irrelevant seeming how long the Israel/Palestine thing has been going on, and if you don't know what a blue octopus refers to them you're more ignorant than I thought you could be. Who needs a mascot UNLESS you're trying to slyly make a point ?
19
The salient point is not that they jabe an anti Semitic mascot but that they are so infantile to have ANY mascot
11
@jakecross4628 I don't care about the Zara top as plenty countries have flags of that colour. Unless you are trying to say something with a mascot, what sort of baby brings one out on a TV show? Unless your mental age is 10, why would you have one UNLESS you were surreptitiously trying to make a statement?
6
@jakecross4628 Mascots are for THE CHILDREN at a football match.
6
You do realise the blue octopus is an anti Semitic trope from the 1930's?
4
@jakecross4628 And pathetic they are for doing so. Do you have soft toys on your desk at work, or are you a grown up?
4
@jakecross4628 Only a Muslim would have a blue octopus BECAUSE it's a political point. Saying it wasn't done for antisemitism is like saying pro Palestinians at the protests shouting "Jihad" were "talking about inner struggle" What sort of idiot even follows a religion?
4
@conah9440 Because it's an anti Semitic trope that goes back over 85 years. Today's date and the UC show date are irrelevant. Would you want a gollywog on the show? Again though, what sort of Adult needs or displays a mascot UNLESS they are tying to say something with it?
4
Arrest anyone for being an adult but being so childish you need a mascot, it's as embarrassing as Prince Andrew and his teddy bears.
3
@darrenporter1850 Why not have a Swastika on your desk? You can just pretend it's not a racist insignia but an ancient Chinese/Indian symbol, Perhaps if you're having a particularly hard day you can shout "jihad" and just pretend you're referring to your "inner struggle"
3
@jakecross4628 "only a Muslim ADULT" would have a blue octopus. Better? Clearly she had an agenda. Just because you hatched out of an egg yesterday, doesn't mean we all did.
3
Irrelevant to the point. Why has March got anything to do with it? Which March? 1949, 1967, 1972, 1984, 1999, 2011,2023? All of these dates still had an ongoing Israel/Palestine issue. The blue octopus as been an anti Semitic trope since WW2
3
@jakecross4628 I'd prefer that adults thought they were for children and refrained from having them. These same people probably laughed at Prince Andrew for having teddies, but at least he didn't bring them on TV.
3
@divinity176 It's context. If a child has a blue octopus, it's because it's a child. If an adult has a blue octopus on a TV show when they'd be embarrassed to have a "mascot" at any other point it's because they're trying to make a point. You can't be that naive. Personally, I'd be more embarrassed to associate myself with a religious fairy tale.
2
Don't you know offence only goes one way?
2
@desoliver9712 Except when it's a cynical, surreptitious attempt to make a political point.
2
@divinity176 Hadn't flared up in years? Perhaps you don't know very much about Israel/Gaza. Can you even find it on a map?
1
@zaidal-hindawi1784 Oh right, so we can start using swastikas again now too? Maybe a Hitler salute? How about watermelon toys, maybe have some stuffed fries chicken on the desk? After all, it only USED to be racist right?
1
@jfm14 No, probably because you're ignorant of history. Funny how you don't criticise Thundberg for using it too.
1
@ballz4kidz How very droll. I'm not defending EITHER side, I think they're both c***s, but the simple fact is the BBC are pro Palestine when they are supposed to be impartial.
1
Exactly, all those pro Palestinians keep reminding is "this didn't begin on October the 7th" Funny how that only goes one way with them.
1
@tailesin1 Anti Semitic referees to a hatred of Jews. Don't try pretend it means anything else in this context.
1
@TheAmrthe2nd Because only pedants prefer not to know what it's talking about. Are you confused about what people are talking about when they shout "jihad"? Do you wonder if they're meaning "holy war" or do you actually believe they mean "internal struggle"? People use context, they don't need everything spelled put for them. So if something is described as being anti Semitic, you know EXACTLY what it means (even if you don't know how to spell it)
1
@msimms-ft9yv Yet you probably thought M&S advert was anti Palestine.
1
@tailesin1 You do realise that word usage and word meaning are dependent upon CONTEXT right? Words can be used interchangeably to mean DIFFERENT things in DIFFERENT situations.
1
@moatasemkassab4517 Would you allow someone to have a Gollywog on the show?
1
@moatasemkassab4517 It's not a false analogy at all. If you are Jewish you know very well what a blue octopus means. Your lack of knowledge isn't an excuse I'm afraid. The point is the lack of impartiality from the BBC Funny to accuse me of a false analogy and then use one of your own about cars. A swastika can be innocent too, would you be allowed one? Would you be allowed a Gollywog?
1
@msimms-ft9yv Nor did Greta Thunberg take any interest in Palestine until Oct 7, but you aren't criticising her. The Nazis didn't use it as a metaphor for land grabbing did they, as Israel has no land then. The BBC doesn't need anyone taking cheap shots at it, it willingly exposed its bias towards Palestine ALL the time. Only last week they had to apologise AGAIN following their second gaff in as many weeks.
1
@msimms-ft9yv Give me another example of a country using it to depict land grabbers in the last year or two.
1
@desoliver9712 Say that again. It's a mascot and I have to grow up. 😂 Do you use mascots? If you do, isn't it you that has to grow up?
1
@desoliver9712 Mascots DO NOT bring luck, they are a stupid inanimate toy. As previously said the Mascots at football matches ARE FOR CHILDREN.
