It's like the Starbucks trend of sugary coffee drinks that Americans have gotten accustomed/addicted to in the last 20 years. Along with bubble tea, many cafes have things like mochi dounts, cream puffs, popcorn chicken, and other calorie-laden snacks for customers to sit around gorging themselves on.
