Well, that's hilarious... and true!

I agree. Too many JDs are being churned out year after year. The older people won't or cannot afford to retire.

@juststoic3809 true. There are way too many law schools and not enough jobs, at least in the USA.
7
Yes. Totally. It is nothing as depicted in movies and tv shows. I say this as a Georgetown law school graduate who is now a solo practitioner.

Anything is possible, but the chances of employment and success diminish the lower you go in the law school rankings.

@Robertking1996 that's great to hear-- but from what I've seen, the really rich/successful lawyers are ones who graduated years ago. I'm in North Carolina and lived in the DC area before, where attorneys are a dime a dozen due to all the law schools. My sister moved to South Carolina & couldn't find an attorney position, after getting a UNC law degree and experience working for a mid-sized firm. For every person who managed to get a prestigious job from a low-ranked law school, there are many more who washed out of the profession. The law schools, of course, like to spotlight those graduates who made it, to encourage more young people to apply.

@Robertking1996 they weren't corporate firms. The firms I worked for were small ones that did criminal, traffic, workers comp, employment law, etc. & my sister did immigration for a firm with other practice areas. Anyway, I only started making good money after going solo. My sister wound up doing doc review and is now a stay at home mom. I made some videos about my experiences that are on my channel, if you want to take a look. :)

Your google search information is totally wrong, unfortunately. Medical law either means working in the medical malpractice field or as in-house counsel to large medical companies/institutions. If you have health problems, you may have difficulty working those long hours.

Great comments about the J.D. degree. The average salary is very misleading, because as you mentioned, there's a significant chunk of law school graduates who can't even find attorney positions after they graduate. This is all the more reason why at least half of all law schools need to be shut down, especially the bottom tier private schools. I say this as a practicing attorney who went to Georgetown law school and still made laughably low salaries, before I went solo.

Great, so it should be worth it for you!

IP is getting saturated. The business has moved overseas.

Nursing is actually a great career. You could even make more than lawyers, especially if you become a nurse practitioner.

Knowledge is power.

@ShaneHummus great channel! I just started making some legal-themed videos, & a few are about how bad the job market is. Please check it out if you have time. :)

Love the song so much I did a reaction to it!

Great video! I was an Ethnic Studies major, then went to law school. I don't recommend that anyone go to law school now! Higher ed is a racket. It's a crime that private schools charge over $50k a year, not to mention room & board and added fees, for students to come out having to work at a mall or cafe. Useless degrees, I agree.

@ShaneHummus i just made a video on my channel last week subtitled "Don't go to law school." There used to be an active forum called JD Underground where people complained about their useless JDs and how terrible the job market was/is. There are too many for profit, lousy diploma mills. Most MBAs have become a dime a dozen too. Not worth it unless it's from Harvard or Stanford.

Good luck and avoid high priced low tier private schools!

It's still very difficult to get a real tenured professor position. Those professors never quit. They stay on until they die or choose to retire. There have been articles in the media over the last few years about the plight of adjunct professors and how little they get paid. Some of them have to scramble to piece together different teaching positions and still wind up living out of their cars.

Yeah, I'm an attorney with a degree from a top law school, but yet I had plenty of clients who are nurses and made more than I was making at the time. One time I met someone who was a nurse practitioner making over 200,000 a year. And it's not all about the money, the nurses can really help people and save lives. Congrats on making the right career choice.

@ShaneHummus it does look strangely dark in the background, like you are filming in secret late at night. Great information you are sharing though!

Work in a grocery store stocking shelves. Being a clown at birthday parties. True stories.

Yes. The private schools are ridiculously overpriced-- 60k/year to be taught by pompous academics who couldn't even get regular jobs in the real working world? Then the students graduate and realize they have to do retail work, at least many of them who get worthless degrees. Now that most students are learning online, they are realizing how ripped off they are by private school tuition. Even public school college tuition has gotten crazy. The average working family can't afford it.
