  2. The myth perpetrated in tv shows and movies that lawyers argue in & verdicts are announced in packed courtrooms. The truth is, people have work & better things to do than hang out in courtrooms. At most, the parties' family members might be there for support, as well as other attorneys who have other matters before the judge and are just waiting around. This was a great video!

  6. Transferring is a good idea only if one is transferring way up into a T14 school, imho. If a student is already #1-5 in his/her class, s/he will already have a good chance of getting a good job, as opposed to becoming in the middle or bottom of the class of a slightly higher-ranked law school.

It's been a long time since I applied to law schools, but I don't recall being interviewed for any of the schools I applied to: UW, UC Davis, Hastings, GW, Georgetown, U Hawaii, USC, Yale, Emory. I did speak to a student representative from UCLA's Asian American law students' association. I think most law schools have too many applicants, so they can't possibly have interviews with everyone.

  11. It is possible but normally you want to be able to work long hours at the beginning of your career. Some government jobs & smaller firms will allow you to have a good balance.

  15. I don't think any online law schools are well-reputed. It may be better to work for a while, then try to get into a top full-time, regular law school program. Best wishes!

  16. It depends what kind of job you can get with your college degree and of course, how good of a law school you can get into. In my opinion, going to law school these days, unless it's one of the very top law schools in the whole country, is very risky and way overpriced.

  19. Unfortunately, given the astronomical costs of law school, rich kids have a big advantage. Even taking the bar review classes costs thousands of dollars, and it is better not to be working while preparing for the bar exam.

  21.  @emmaelisha1339  try the free Khan Academy class online & watch the LSAT Trainer videos on youtube. Take lots of real previously administered tests under timed conditions & try to get a private tutor. I taught for Kaplan and don't highly recommend it.

  28.  @WalksandSuch  i discuss being a solo on several videos on my channel. It's great to be your own boss and have the discretion regarding whether to turn down cases. You get to keep all the profit too! Of course that assumes that you can make a profit. I know of many other people who tried to start their own practices and threw in the towel, because it was too hard and they couldn't generate enough income. I'm in a suburb of the RTP triangle area in North Carolina, where luckily there are a lot of gainfully employed, white-collar professionals who can afford attorneys' fees.

  31.  @Crocodile2873  That sounds unlikely to lead to a real job. I have never met anyone who practiced law and didn't go to law school (I worked in VA for a while before moving to NC). Also, I doubt many attorneys want to offer apprenticeships-- they'd be training the competition. You'll be a lot better off going to a top-ranked public law school in your state. Good luck!

  34. It's possible, especially if the person is in evening law school. I worked as a weekend legal assistant for a big firm. My career counselor didn't think it was a good idea but I did it for less than a year.

  37. Not at all. I am a practicing attorney, and as far as I know, none of my colleagues read law journals. We read bar journals and learn from doing research and attending continuing legal education classes.

  45. California allows people to take the bar without going to law school, & without going to accredited law schools, but those people are unlikely to get jobs as lawyers.
