It's to look better-dressed. Suit jackets tend to get bunched up when you sit, so people often unbutton them while sitting.

That's sad. I didn't know about that. In Hollywood, everything has to be black and white so the audience is behind the protagonist. Just like in Hurricane-- I found out later the man had a sketchy personal history that would have made him less likeable.

I don't think so. If there's a conflict of interest (e.g. client won't listen to you), you can request to withdraw from representing a client, even if the client was court-appointed.
