  1. Learn German! Among the big western European countries Germany is the one with the largest Russian diaspora and with the most connections to Russia and post-soviet countries. Not just history wise with all the Volga Germans and Altai German National Okrug, Katherine the Great etc... but also many intellectual people, musicians, writers, oppositional politicians from Russia moved to Germany since Putin started to ruin the country. There are also many Germans who speak Russian or at least learned it in school and it's not just the people who were born and raised in East Germany.
