The foreign minister has done a fantastic job answering the questions.

The overwhelming majority of Taiwanese people reject one country two systems, seeing the broken promises and crackdown by Beijing. Beijing fumbled the opportunity to peaceful reunification by being unable to accept democracy and freedoms.
8
We should display the scrupture internationally. So that people will not forget what happened in Beijing.
4
@yct6500 yes. Taiwan has democracy.
4
@nvmtt The cost of housing in China is very high relative to Chinese income. In fact, one of the highest in the world.
3
@LoC28C 98 percent of Taiwanese people oppose reunification with mainland for a multitude of reasons. Unless these numbers drastically change, reunification with mainland will not happen.
3
@joeyp1927 If British gave Hong Kong democracy, China would have invaded Hong Kong and Britain would have no way to defend it. This was confirmed by Britain declassified official documents (and China didn't denied it).
3
@joeyp1927 Let's be honest. China couldn't stand democracy in Hong Kong in the 1960s, it couldn't stand democracy in the 1980s and 1990s, it couldn't handle democracy today. Peaceful reunification with Taiwan is only possible when Beijing allows democracy and freedoms. They haven't.
3
Why not move to China? China needs lots of English teachers and Americans will do well. The standard of living is lower. Americans can spread the idea of freedoms and democracy to the Chinese.
2
@nvmtt Precisely. More Americans should be moving to China. I am not commenting on the dating sites 🤣🤣🤣🤣
2
@nvmtt1403 China has the second largest homeless population in Asia (2.6 million) behind only war-torn Syria. It takes 45 years of average Chinese income to buy a home in Shanghai or Beijing.
2
@pengkun2237 The only way for the Taiwan government to agree to reunite with the mainland is if the CCP recognizes Taiwan's freedoms and democracy. So far, CCP hadn't.
2
Stay strong. We are all fighting together ❤️
2
Chinese media didn't report peaceful protest in the beginning of 2019.
2
@peabase I was born and grew up in Hong Kong. Hong Kong was getting more and more like mainland everyday.
1
5 billion will last until early 2022. Then what will happen?
1
@nvmtt China has the 2nd largest homeless population (2579000) in Asia, after the war torn Syria. It takes 47 years of annual income to buy a home in Shanghai, 42 years in Beijing. You should go to China and take a look.
1
China will become a great and admired country when it respects human rights and allows democracy.
1
The answer is easy. Give Hong Kong people the freedom and democracy that were promised to them, AND arrest those who broken the law. The government cannot have it both ways.
1
It is bad for Hong Kong's reputation.
1
@YY-in5kn Yes. That was back in 1960s. China would invade Hong Kong if Britain gave democracy to Hong Kong. I love China. Was China correct?
1
@yaucharles91 Hong Kong is always loyal to Beijing, but are you sure there were 2 systems? And Beijing wasn't interfering? Taiwanese people obviously disagree.
1
@joeyp1927 Of course Britain didn't make it public. China couldn't care less about PR in the 1960s, and everyone knew that. By keeping Hong Kong under status quote, it kept Hong Kong prosperous, which was good for Britain as well. Britain was unable to defend Hong Kong should China invade.
1
@brucel7430 As a Chinese, I am shocked so few Chinese people (including HongKongers) know about that. HongKongers didn't get democracy because of Beijing, not Britain.
1
@ericyuen5946 By definition, Taiwan is part of China. So, by definition, Democracy exists in part of China. What I meant is that Chinese people can successfully integrate Democracy into their political system.
1
@rlangdon95 please see comment brucel7430 above why Hong Kong didn't have democracy. It was not the British. It was the Chinese government specifically threatened to invade Hong Kong in the 1950s and 1960s should the British grant Hong Kong democracy. China never denied this herself. We Chinese people are supposed to be smart, so why can't everyone get their facts straight?
1
@catsNcode This type of democracy is not accepted in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
1
@xr2kid agree with you the historical perspective is (very) different between Hong Kong and Taiwan. But practically if freedoms and democracy succeed in Hong Kong, then Taiwan can be peacefully reunified. Given the current debacle in Hong Kong, Taiwanese people have seen enough of the CCP.
1
@charlizet4314 What the heck are you talking about? Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States, India, the list of former British colonies that evolved into democracy is long. Are you from mainland China?
1
@mmhcc9907 Specific examples about what? About how many people the Chinese Communist Party have killed and the leaders are fine with it?
1
This is a really bad plan for Ukraine. Russia can easily attack again in the future.
1
China should import coal from Australia. Say sorry to Australia if needed.
1
We love China, we just don't like one of the Chinese political party. Anything wrong with it?
1
Those refused to vaccinate should move to China. Then they will learn how to be good citizen
