The reputation of the BRI among Italians hadn't been great even before the signing in 2019. The withdrawal was not a surprise.

@Shenzhou. We Chinese people have seen our country invaded by predatory foreign power (Japan, 1937 to 1945) just like what Ukraine is experiencing now. Millions of Chinese as well as tens of thousands of Ukrainians have died/injured/homeless during the invasions. China has recognized Ukraine sovereignty since its independence in 1992. Europe/USA/China working together can bring peace to Ukraine, just like Europe/USA/China working together brought peace to China in 1945.

@diddywongye8355 European Union all recognized The PRC as China and the trade between them is immense. The cooperation between EU and China is logical.

@diddywongye8355 Reputation aside, what have Italy benefited from the BRI since joining it? Italy is a democracy, unlike China. The leaders must be accountable to the population (unlike China). Why Italians are not hostile to China, they prefer to keep a distance.
