This is called spear phishing, and they got your information from data breaches to create an elaborate hoax. Don't be so arrogant to think you are above being scammed. There are plenty of people who would not have forked out a fee to sit with a judge... that's just silly. RED FLAG #1: they create fear. RED FLAG #2: the solution is tied to money. VERIFYING would have been easy by dialing the number of the Wake County law clerk by Googling it. But this smarter than everyone couple fell for it several times... to the tune of 5k. Expensive lesson.
